NEWS from SUMMERFUNd…

 

   ALERT 10th graders…

   MedLink is a FREE health sciences and college prep mentorship program where students will learn about medical careers, work with medical, nursing and pharmacy students.  MedLink’s target group is low income 10th grade students who will be the first in the family to graduate college.  Students will meet at UCSF the first Saturday of each month, November to April. This is a coed program but BOYS should be strongly encouraged to apply (girls apply at a much higher rate). Students can come to  SUMMERFUNd in Room 458A on Tuesday and Friday afternoons to prepare applications!  Galileo’s application deadline  has been extended to Friday, October 11, 2013.

Galileo PTSA Education/Enrichment Grants Application Procedures Update:

 

Please submit your applications 3 weeks before the following General PTSA meetings:

Nov. 13, 2013, Jan. 8, 2014, March 12, 2014 and April 9, 2014.  This will give the Grants Committee members time to review and then make recommendations for voting at the above listed General PTSA meetings.  For complete guidelines, please go togalileoweb.org/ptsa/grant-request     Questions can be directed to Jeanne at  Lattjiu@aol.com

PARKING COURTESY:  Please do not block other cars in both the Bay Street and the Polk Street parking lots.  If you have to block a car, do it only for a few minutes and leave your Galileo Parking Hanger in plain sight in your car.  If you do not have a Galileo Parking Hanger, see Bettie Grinnell in the Main Office.                                       Mrs. Grinnell

ASB STORE in Room 150  is selling healthy snacks, beverages, sweatshirts, new drawstring day packs, hand towels, lanyards, bookcovers, pens, pennants, mugs, and other spirit items during lunch time and after school. Money helps to pay for our school activities.

ASB STORE is selling ASB card stickers @ $5.00. Discounts are given for dances, sweatshirts, yearbook, and other spirit items.

ARE YOU STRESSED? Having a hard time adjusting back to school? Having issues in your friendships or relationships? Just need someone to talk to? Come to the Wellness Program in Room 151. It’s free, private and if you are looking for someone to listen we are here!

    

HOMECOMING SONG AND YELL CONTEST is Friday, Oct. 18

 

HOMECOMING DANCE TICKETS: are on sale at the ASB store (room 150).Music is by the popular DJ Rodd. Prices are $5 with current ASB card sticker and $7 w/o from Oct. 1 – 11. Prices will go up to $8 with ASB & $10 w/o from Oct. 14 – 18. Guest ticket is $12 and must fill out guest form at the Dean’s Office. You will get a free neon necklace & free photo booth picture. Must bring ID with photo at the door. No tickets sold at the door. Dance is from 7 – 11 PM. Door will close at 8:30 PM. Voting for homecoming court until 9 PM.

 

YOUTHLINE DIGITAL MEDIA SPECIALIST: Are you interested in becoming a Youthline Digital Media Specialist and get paid $11 an hour? You must be 14-17 years old and have a strong interest in film or media. Applications are due Nov. 1 – go online to the Galileo Wellness Website and click on Programs & Internships 13-14  or stop by Room 151 to pick up info about the CHALK Youthline Digital Media job opportunity!

GALILEO SCHOOL JACKETS will be on sale on Wed., Oct. 23 during lunch time in front of the auditorium.

 

HALLOWEEN COSTUME CONTEST:  will be on Thursday, Oct. 31 in the courtyard during lunch time.

YEARBOOKS: Missed the previous yearbook sale?  Don’t worry!  Students, parents and teachers can receive an extra 10% off their yearbook purchase if they purchase it online at Treering.com before the end of October.  You can also buy your yearbook at Back to School Night from 4:30 pm to 8:00 in the computer lab room 260, just bring a check or credit card.  In addition there will be a yearbook table outside the auditorium with information and examples of the new yearbook.                                     Yearbook Staff
