SUMMERFUND

 

Allison Chen will go to a writing program at Smith College, Sandy Jiang will study wolves and moose on a backpacking trip in Michigan’s upper peninsula, Candy Luo has been selected as a Student Ambassador representing San Francisco in Osaka, Japan and Juan Avila will be spending five weeks at Stanford with the Stanford Medical Youth Science Program!  That’s just a taste of what our students will be doing this summer. SUMMERFUND is about opportunity, exposure and access for Galileo students.

Please  encourage students to find out about the many summer programs that are still available.  Deadlines vary but they are approaching.  SUMMERFUND will be open THIS WEEK on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, Room 458A.

STUDENTS

ASB STORE in Room 150  is selling healthy snacks, beverages, sweatshirts, new drawstring day packs, hand towels, lanyards, book covers, pens, pennants, mugs, and other spirit items during lunch time and after school. Money helps to pay for our school activities.

ASB STORE is selling ASB card stickers @ $5.00. Discounts are given for dances, sweatshirts, yearbook, and other spirit items.

GRADUATION: is Wednesday, May 28 at Bill Graham’s Auditorium at 1 PM.

 

Are you looking for a job or summer internship? Lots of applications are up on the Wellness Center’s website,galileoweb.org/wellness and click on “Programs and Internships”. There are applications Oasis for Girls, Project WHAT!, jobs for high school students, and more.

 

TRAVEL?  To Central America? To Nicaragua? There will be a presentation after school on Tuesday, May 20  in room 458.  Hear about community service and cultural immersion trips in June and July. No Spanish required but here’s your chance to learn the language. Learn about a life-changing opportunity  on Tuesday, May 20th after school in Room 458.

 

Make Music!  Make Sounds…and maybe make some money, too! You can learn all aspects of digital music production and sound design basics for video games and digitsl video FOR FREE.  After a 4 week afternoon program at the Bay Area Video Coalition, you could hook up for a paid internship!  Get more info at SUMMERFUNd in Room 458A…open after school next week on Tuesday and Thursday!  Don’t wait…this program begins Monday, June 2nd!!

 

Have you ever wanted to create and produce an original play?  Do you want to perform?  Direct? Prepare for an audition?  The Magic Theatre in nearby Fort Mason has a high school program for all grades.  SUMMERFUNd can help you with your application and fundraising.  Room 458A next week on Tuesday and Thursday..

Green Energy Camp is a free 5 day program (Monday, June 16 through Friday, June 20 at Skyline College) where students can create videos highlighting alternative energy.  Learn about solar solutions and energy       efficient products and services.  BART and bus to the campus in San Bruno.  SUMMERFUND can help you register, as well as assist in getting reduced price BART tickets.  Stop by SUMMERFUND in Room 458A after school Today…or next Tuesday, Thursday and Friday!

 

COSMOLOGY—defined as the branch of philosophy and science  that deals with the study of the universe!  You can learn more at the FREE Physics and Cosmology Workshop at the Lawrence Berkeley Lab at UC Berkeley from Monday, June 23 through Friday, June 27.  Hear two Nobel prize winning professors and staff from Quarknet.  Explore particle physics and cosmology.  Applications are available at SUMMERFUND, Room 458A, today after school and next week—Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons.
