PARKING COURTESY: Please do not block other cars in both the Bay Street and the Polk Street parking lots. If you have to block a car, do it only for a few minutes and leave your Galileo Parking Hanger in plain sight in your car. You may already have them in your closet. Make sure to wear anything purple or Galileo gear on Friday, October 2 at the 71st Song and Yell Contest. Let’s teach our students what is school spirit. For 9th & 10th:
JCYC Upward Bound is a college access program that provides year-round programming designed to help students find and maintain success in high school while learning about college application and financial aid processes. Some program highlights include a six-week summer program where students get to live in college dorms as well as an annual trip to southern California to visit colleges like UCLA and USC. For any motivated 9th and 10th graders interested learning more about the program, please drop by the Advisor Hub in room 209 on Mondays and Wednesdays and talk to Jeff Smith.
Since SAT will have a new scoring system starting with your class, counselors recommend that you try the ACT test instead. Therefore, we will be offering a full-length ACT practice test for $5 on 10/17 from 8:30-1pm at Galileo. If you want to take this test, please register on www.compassprep.com/galileoACT or call 415-464-8600 for details or speak to your counselor, advisor, or college and career counselor about this one time only opportunity. Registration deadline is 10/14.
If you want to take the PSAT on 10/14 from 8am-12:35pm on campus, please sign up with Ms. S. Chan in the College & Career Center in room 258. The score for this test can help you enter the National Merritt Scholarship. We only have 100 seats for juniors.
For 11th, 12th:
Step to College is open for registration. The class is taught by a SF State professor every Friday from 3:30-5:30pm at Galileo. Students receive elective HS credit and 3 college units for each semester. If you’re interested, please see Mr. Harper in the Counseling Center.
Many well-known and well respected private colleges offer fly-in programs now. They will cover transportation cost, room and board for you to visit their campus for 2 to 3 days, so that you can decide if you like the college enough that you will apply there.

The QuestBridge National College Match is now open and will be due by 9/25/15. This maybe a full ride scholarship for a prestige college. If you qualify for free or reduced-price lunch program, family income is less than $60,000 and have high grades, check it out: www.questbridge.org
All seniors, please turn in your uAspire consent form to room 209 as soon as possible. Look for Michael, your Galileo uAspire advisor if you need a form. He is here to help seniors throughout the financial aid process.
Please check out the scholarship posting. It’s posted in the Counseling Center or from last week’s announcements. There are quite a few scholarship opportunities for you already. Don’t miss deadlines!
The Culinary Arts and Hospitality Studies (CAHS) at City College of SF is now accepting applications for the Spring 2016. Application deadline is 11/9/15. To apply or for more details: www.ccsf.edu/cahs or call 415-239-3152. There is program orientations in October, November, and December, please email email@example.com for exact dates. This program helps you earn an A.S. Degree for a career in The Hospitality Industry: Culinary Arts Management, Food Service Management, and Hotel Management.
