COLLEGE & CAREER ANNOUNCEMENTS 9/12 – 18/16

9/26 @ 3:15PM @ RM 104: UC Santa Cruz: UC Santa Cruz is ranked #1 in the nation and number 2 in the world for our research influence. Over 70% of our students participate in research across all fields of study. Some of our more popular majors are psychology, marine biology, computer science game design, and business management economics. We also have a very good school of engineering which is tailored to prepare our students for internships with Silicon Valley companies.

9/27 @ 12:20PM @ RM 104: Suffolk University: Located in the heart of downtown Boston, Suffolk University gives its students unparalleled access to the city and all it offers.  This is a mid-sized private university with approximately 5,600 undergraduate students.  Suffolk has over 60 different degree programs with flexibility to double major within both the College of Arts and Sciences and the Sawyer Business School. 50% of students study abroad.

 

9/27 @ 3:15pm @ RM 104: Gallaudet University: This is a small liberal arts private college in Washington DC.  This college has students who are both or either hard of hearing or deaf from around the world.  They will teach American Sign Language as well.   

9/29 @ 11:45am @ RM 104: Youth & Government for YMCA:Are you looking for a program that fosters youth leadership, core values, critical thinking skills, and promotes civic engagement? Thursdays @ 2:30pm-4pm @ RM 119: FREE workshops on how to save money & be an entrepreneur: Learn how to make a business plan, network with future entrepreneurs, learn about PsC and visit their offices and receive college prep support from professional.  For more details, stop by Futurama in room 119.

10/22 @ 8:30-12:30pm @ Galileo Academy: Practice ACT Test:this is one of the college admission required test that you can take in addition to SAT.  Taking this full-length practice test will give you a better idea on whether you score higher on ACT or SAT.  You will receive a detailed report including an essay evaluation in 3-5 business days.  Registration will be closed on10/19: www.compasspre.com/GalileoACT or call 415-464-8600.  

For 11th & 12th:

9/29 @ 2:15pm-4:15pm @ RM 104: College Ambassadors Training: Finalizing the College Research: If you’re a College Ambassador, you’re expected to attend this training.  See you there.

For 11th

10/19 @ 8am-12:35pm @ Galileo Academy: PSAT: If you want to take this practice SAT to see if you can qualify for the national merit scholarship, please sign-up for this test in the College & Career Center in room 258F.  It’s first come first served and 10/13 is the last day to sign-up.  Seats are limited.

11/9 is the registration deadline if you want to register for the low cost ACT prep class from 1/4/17-4/5/17 on Wed. from 2:30-4:30pm at Galileo.  Cost will range from $290-$490 per student depending on enrollment.  For more details or to sign-up, please see Ms. S. Chan in room 258F.

 

For 12th: 9/28 @ 2:15pm @ RM 104: College Application Workshop:Seniors, come work on your Common Application, UC Application or any other college applications of your choice. We can help answer questions along the way.   9/28 @ 5:30pm @ Cafeteria: The College Application: How many colleges should seniors apply to?  What type of application forms do they need to complete?  What about test scores?  This detailed and comprehensive presentation will be done in Cantonese, Spanish, and English for senior parents and students.  A light dinner will be provided. 10/15 & 10/16 @ 1pm-6pm @ Mission High School: The Great San Francisco Personal Statement Weekend: 826 Valencia is a non-profit agency that provides writing support for high school students.  Seniors from across the district received free one-on-one support on their college application essays over the course of two days.  Time slots are available between 1pm-6pm on 10/15 and 10/16.  Please RSVP:  http://826valencia.org/psw-2016/ As you know, uAspire is here to support you for the financial aid process.  In addition to having the “money man”, Michael, whom you have met in your social studies class presentation, there will be a second advisor joining him. uAspire’s My Brother’s and Sister’s Keeper (MBSK) Initiative invites students who identify as African American to participate in college affordability advising.  MBSK College Affordability Advisor, Breanna Branch, will be in room 209 every 1st and 3rdFriday, starting September 23rd.  Please stop by the College Center or room 209 to get more information.  The consent form is sent via SchoolLoop.  Consent forms for MBSK participation can be turned into the College Center/Room 209.  Alternatively, you may take a clear photo of the signed form and email it toinfo@uaspire.org or text the photo to 510-575-0524. uAspire is still accepting consent forms. Please turn in the green uAspire consent form to room 209 to receive financial aid help. The Fly-In Program List is sent via SchoolLoop and posted outside of room 255:  If you want to apply for a grant to visit some private colleges for FREE, check out this list and apply. Most of the colleges that offer a Fly-In Program will also provide large amount of scholarship.  If you need help with the application, ask one of the advisors in room 209, or Ms. S. Chan in room 258 or ask your academic counselor.  Good luck!
