WORD OF THE WEEK: ASSEMBLY: An assembling or coming together of a number of persons, usually for a particular purpose; a group of persons gathered together, usually for a particular purpose, whether educational, political, religious or social; a signal, as by drum or bugle, for troops to fall into ranks or otherwise assemble.

PARKING COURTESY: Please do not block other cars in both the Bay Street and the Polk Street parking lots. If you have to block a car, do it only for a few minutes and leave your Galileo Parking Hanger in plain sight in your car. ASB CARD STICKERS: are sold at ASB office (room 150) @ $5.00. Discount for dances, sweatshirts, lanyards, & other school spirit items.
ASB STUDENT STORE: in room 150 is selling healthy drinks, snacks, hand towels, mugs, poms poms, and other school spirit items.
SCHOOL PICTURES AND PHOTO ID CARDS: will be taken on Wed., 8/31 & Thurs., 9/1. There will be a class schedule later.
WELCOME ASSEMBLY: is Friday, Sept. 2 during a double period 4. Wear anything purple that day to promote school spirit. It is Purple Dress-Up Day.
CLUB DAY: Friday, September 2, 2016 in the Courtyard during lunch. Come learn about all of Galileo’s clubs and sign-up to join.
College & Career Center announcement for 8/29 – 9/4/16
For 9th, 10th, 11th, & 12th:
Oasis for Girls is a nonprofit located in the mission neighborhood and it pays a stipend for the girls to learn life, social, career readiness, and art skills. Application deadline is 9/2 by 5pm. The program is from 9/20-12/2. To apply online: https://goo.gl/pllMCO
Breakthrough SF is a local education nonprofit that motivates middle school students with limited educational opportunities on the road to college. If you want to tutor 5th-8th grade students at SF Day School, please apply for a volunteer tutor position by 9/16. Volunteer schedule is between 10/3-12/1, for just one day per week on either Mon./Wed. from 3:30pm-5:30pm or Tues./Thur. from 4pm-6pm. Southern Exposure is non-profit art organization in SF. They are now accepting applications from youth artists (ages 16-21) for the 2016–2017 One-on-One Mentorship Program with an individual professional visual artist. This highly individualized art program is free and open to all Bay Area youth. This program aims to develop artistic, educational and life skills by combining the benefits of mentoring relationships with art education. This program is for intermediate to advanced youth artists. Mission Techies: A FREE program that offers free tech training to 17 to 24 year olds. You will even earn $500 stipend! Fall session is from 10/3-12/16 from Monday to Friday from 1pm-5pm. Music of East Asia (Music 24): This is a credited music class at City College’s Chinatown branch. Class is on Thur. night from 6:10pm-9pm. If you’re interested, register at www.ccsf.edu
The Fly-In Program List is now available outside of room 255 and via School Loop: If you want to apply for a grant to visit some private colleges for free, check out this list and apply. Most of the colleges that offer a Fly-In Program will also provide large amount of scholarship. If you need help with the application, ask one of the advisors in room 209, or Ms. S. Chan in room 258 or ask your academic counselor. Good luck!
