WORD OF THE WEEK:  HAPPY NEW YEAR!!:Wish you a Happy New Year 2017, the favorite holiday of all time, is one of the most celebrated days in the whole world. The day is shaped by the different customs and traditions. Each culture celebrates this holiday in its own unique and special way. Every city has its own significance and relevance with respect to the new year. Each city has its own way to celebrate the New Year.

OPENING DAY SPRING SEMESTER:  The schedule for the day will begin with Homeroom, where students will pick up their class schedules for the Spring Semester.  Homeroom will run from 8:00am – 8:30am.  Check your email for the schedule for Tuesday, January 3, 2017.

SOCIAL COMMITTEE CONTRIBUTION:  Just a reminder–if you haven’t already given your social committee contribution, it’s not too late.  See Bettie Grinnell in the Main Office with your $25–checks or cash welcome! Social Committee

PARKING COURTESY:  Please do not block other cars in both the Bay Street and the Polk Street parking lots.  If you have to block a car, do it only for a few minutes and leave your Galileo Parking Hanger in plain sight in your car.  If you do not have a Galileo Parking Hanger, see Bettie Grinnell in the Main Office.    Mrs. Grinnell





ASB CARD STICKERS: are sold at ASB office (room 150) @ $5.00. Discount for dances, sweatshirts, lanyards, & other school spirit items.


ASB STUDENT STORE: in room 150 is selling healthy drinks, snacks, hand towels, mugs,  poms poms, and other school spirit items.


STUDENT ID CARDS: Our Student ID Card software has been updated with the latest student pictures and is now up and running. If you know any current students or new/transfer students in need of an ID card, please direct them to Ms. Rivera in the Counseling office (258E), where our ID printer is located.

For any new/transfer students, first ID card is free of charge. All replacement ID cards will cost $2.

EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING: is Monday, Jan. 8 to discuss new activities this month.


WINTER PEP RALLY: and class of year competition is Friday, Jan. 20.


VARSITY BASEBALL NEEDS GIRL MANAGERS: To keep book and help with team functions.  Please see Coach Papa in Room  263.



For 9th, 10th, 11th, & 12th:

ACE Mentor: This is a free mentorship program for students interested in architecture, engineering, and construction engineering.  You will get a professional mentor and work on real projects along with the mentor.  The office is located in downtown and time commitment is two afternoons per week.  Position is first come first served, so apply ASAP.  For more details or to sign-up: http://www.acementor.org/students/

The student orientation is on 1/12 at 5 PM at 1 Bush St. #200 (HOK).

California Academy of Sciences in the Golden Gate Park offers different volunteer or paid internship opportunities for 8th-12th.  These positions are often fun and you learn more about different areas of science.  The next volunteer program they are recruiting is the Teen Advocates for Science Communication. American Legion invites HS students to compete in speech contest: If you’re interested in this contest, depending on which round you get into, there is a possibility of winning college scholarships of $1,500 and more.  For more info., please see either Speech & Debate team coach, Ms. Ung in room 316 or uAspire advisor, Michael in room 209, or College & Career Counselor, Ms. S. Chan in room 258F.

Free classes at CCSF’s Chinatown Campus in the spring semester.  If you are interested, please see Ms. S. Chan in the Counseling Center in room 258.

Mission Bit: A company where high school student can earn $300 for taking a FREE coding class in spring semester and by participating in the leadership development fellowship. As a part of the fellowship, students will learn how to code, take part in service learning projects and get an opportunity to work on issues most affecting residents in San Francisco. For 11th & 12th:

Bank of America is seeking Student Leader for an 8 week paid internship at a local nonprofit organization. You will also learn valuable civic, social and business leadership skills; in addition to attending a Summit held in Washington DC (in the summer with all expenses paid) to learn how government, business and the nonprofit sector work together.  For more details, see posting in the Counseling Center or call 1-800-218-9946.   

1/3 & 1/10 College Ambassador Meeting @ 12:20pm @ RM 104: This is your weekly meeting.

For 12th:

During Christmas break, if you wish to continue applying to some private colleges, please do so.

1/3-1/12: During these two weeks, we will present the College Application Process Part II in one of your social studies class, please don’t miss it.  You will learn important follow-ups with your college applications and financial aid related items.

1/11 Meritus Scholarship Application Workshop @ 2:15pm @ RM 104: This is a generous scholarship for seniors: if you meet the following criteria, come work on the application with us!

Unweighted GPA between 3.0 – 3.7 (we will consider students slightly outside of this range)

  • Demonstrated Financial Need (majority of our students are on Free/Reduced Lunch)
  • Plan to attend a 4-year University


1/12 FSA ID Set-Up @ 2:15pm @ RM 104: In order for you to be able to submit FAFSA online, you need to create an FSA ID for yourself and one for one of your parents.  Setting this up only takes a few minutes.  It is best to have this set up before 1/19’s Cash for College.

Scholarships:  A current list is sent via SchoolLoop.  A hard copy will be posted in the Counseling Center.  If you’re interested, please check out the details in the attached list ASAP.
