PARKING COURTESY:  Please do not block other cars in both the Bay Street and the Polk Street parking lots.  If you have to block a car, do it only for a few minutes and leave your Galileo Parking Hanger in plain sight in your car.  If you do not have a Galileo Parking Hanger, see Bettie Grinnell in the Main Office.    Mrs. Grinnell

 

NEW ACCOUNTANT:  Galileo’s former accountant, Eva,has been transferred to SOTA.  Our new accountant is Lisa and she will be at Galileo on Thursdays.  Her office will remain in Room 206.

 

COFFEE AND COOKIES: Support Special Education by purchasing a cup of fresh roasted coffee $1.25 and cookies $.25. Available daily 7:45am all year long in either room 214 or 212. (alternating bi-weekly)

JUNIOR HOMEROOM ASSEMBLY:  Will be this Thursday during Homeroom.  All 11th Grade Homeroom Teachers should bring their students to the Auditorium as soon as the bell rings.

 

GALILEO BLACK HOODIE SWEAT SHIRTS:  On sale now in the ASB Office (Room 150);  teacher & staff discount is $25.

TEACHEER LOCATOR:  The Current Teacher Locator is now posted on the Galileo Website.  Check the Staff Support Area on the website.  This document will be updated daily.

 

STAFF PHONE DIRECTORY:  The current Staff Phone Directory os now posted on the Galileo website in the Staff Support Area.  There are 2 versions which you can print out–legal size and letter size.  This document will be updated as needed.

 

TEACHER VOICE MAIL:  It is important for parents to contact their students’ teachers.  If you have not set up your email, please see me and I can help facilitate this.  Itr is important for parents to be able to contact their child’s teachers.  It takes 2-3 minutes and we can do it at my desk.

 

TEACHER EMERGENCY CARDS:  Hi All– It ios so important that we have current information on your emergecy card about who to contact in an emergency.  With so many new staff this year it has been challenging to reach out to everyone.  If I did not give you an emeergency card to complete, please see me.  Thanks!                                            Bettie Grinnell

WRESTLING UPDATE:  Congratulations to Senior, Leonardo Dulanto for placing 2nd and to Sophomore, Alex Harrington for placing 3rd at the Albany Invitational Wrestling Tournament on Saturday at Albany High School!!

GALILEO GEEK SQUAD: Interested in troubleshooting technology issues? Want to assist with the technology program and procedures during your free time at Galileo? Need IT or Tech experience for college/career? Looking for a fun and easy way to get Media Arts or Computer Science extra credit? JOIN GALILEO’S GEEK SQUAD!!! Geek Squad will spend their free periods being responsible for many of the technology issues that arise throughout the day at Galileo. Geek Squad will work on Chromebooks, MacBooks, PCs, iMacs, audio systems, SmartBoards, technology lab and carts, and miscellaneous tech items. Geek Squad members will receive a letter grade for their TA period as well as a signed letter of recommendation from a technology teacher to use on college and job applications. See Ms. Z in Room 260A for more information!

The Youth Theater Project (YTP): A FREE after school program providing high school students with PAID internships in theater.  During the 8 week program, we focus on collaborative play-making, improvisation, and stage skills as our participants work together to create and then perform in their own one-act plays. The San Francisco Mime Troupe is a Tony Award winning political theater company and during YTP, we allow our students to explore and expand their own political views: they have the chance to choose the content of their own show!  The program begins on Feb. 12th and runs until April 10th. Our two respective groups meet three days a week (either M/W/F or Tues/Thurs/F) from 4:15-7:15 in our studio in the Mission @ 855 Treat Ave. On top of the social and performative skills that are gained in YTP, our participants also receive free meals during each class period and a small monetary incentive for transportation purposes. Oasis for Girls: This is a non-profit organization that empowers young women by providing different workshops and supports.  Time commitment is short.  Application deadline is 1/26/18 @ 5pm.  For more details or to apply: http://www.sfoasis.org/

ACE Mentor Program Info.: A free mentorship program for HS who are curious about what it takes to become an engineer, architect, or construction professional.  It’s a 2-hr. weekly session for 15 weeks.  The team meets in downtown SF.  For more details or to apply: http://www.acementor.org/

College Ambassador (CA) Meeting: 1/23/18 @ 12:20pm @ RM 104: This is your usual weekly meeting.

US Naval Academy: 1/25 @ 10:20am @ RM 157: Information on the Naval Academy covering everything from academics, career opportunities, extra-curricular activities, and general lifestyle.  Information regarding the admissions process.  If you need a pass to attend this info. Session, please see Ms. S. Chan in RM 258F.

For 11th & 12th:

The API Youth Leadership Council (APIYLC): 1/18/18 @ 11:45am @ RM 104: a new Community Youth Center (CYC) program starting in 2018. The program consists of weekly workshops that encourage leadership development, community involvement, and civic engagement in API youth. These workshops will touch on social issues by addressing specific topics such as race and gender, issues in the queer community, mental health awareness, and even legacies of colonialism, such as capitalism. By the end of the program, the youth will be challenged to develop their own workshops so that they can gain experience in how to be peer leaders and educators themselves. They will also be expected to complete a service learning project and develop their own campaign surrounding voter registration in the city. The program will go until mind-June and the workshops will take place every Monday and Wednesday from4:30pm – 6:30pm (time adjustable to accommodate youth) at CYC’s 11th Avenue office in the Richmond district of San Francisco. Santa Clara University College Campus Visit: 2/1/18 @ 8am-3pm: This is a free college campus visit (including lunch & snacks) for juniors and seniors who have applied to this campus.  We can bring 45 students.  It’s first come first served, so pick up a field trip form from Vicki (RM 209) ASAP.

For 11th:

GenesysWorks Paid Internship App.: 1/30/18 & 2/6/18 @ 3:15pm @ RM 104: Juniors, if you want a paid internship and get support for college application as well as for financial aid application form, come check out this opportunity!

For 12th:

CCSF Info. & App. Workshop: 1/24/18 & 1/25/18 (sped. students welcome) @ 2:15pm @ RM 104: Come learn about CCSF: Is it really free tuition?!  Apply for free! Complete the application form with us!  We have also organized the CCSF placement exams for you.  Pick up a field trip form for the placement exams on either 2/8 or 2/13.  This form must be turned in to Ms. S. Chan by 1/29 or 2/5.

Skyline Community College Info. & App. Workshop: 1/31/18 @ 2:15pm @ RM 104: Seniors, if you’re interested in learning about this college or apply to it, come check it out.

FAFSA & CA Dream ACT Workshop: 2/7 & 2/15 @ 2:15pm @ RM 104: Come work on either of these financial aid application forms for 4-year or 2-year colleges.  If you have the 2016 income tax return, please bring it with you.

CCSF Placement Exam with extended time: 2/8 @ 7:45am-2:30pm: If you have applied to CCSF for either the summer of 2018 or fall or 2018, have turned in a signed field trip form, please meet at the Francisco St. entrance.  We will take you to CCSF on a school bus to take the exam.

Scholarship Scam: if you get a call telling you that you’ve won a scholarship or that they are calling from the federal dept. to give you a scholarship, and they need your bank account information, please give out your parents’ nor your own information.  If you’re not sure that is a scam, please talk to a counselor or an advisor to verify.

uAspire can help you with financial aid related questions.  Turn in your uAspire consent forms to Michael in room 209 to receive financial aid help.
