WORD OF THE WEEK:  PATRIOT DAY


In the United States, Patriot Day occurs on September 11 of each year in memory of the people killed in the September 11 attacks of 2001.

September 11, 2001, will forever be one of the most tragic days in American history.

SCHOOL ACCOUNTANT’S REGULAR DAY FOR 2018 – 2019 SCHOOL YEAR:  The school accountant will come on Thursdays from 8:30am – 3:30pm. She is located in one of the offices in Room 206.

SUBSTITUTE SYSTEM:  The Substitute System’s phone number: 415-345-0064.   The on-line system remains the same.  If you have any questions please let me know.

SOCIAL COMMITTEE CONTRIBUTION:  The Social Committee provides breakfast for our days before school, as well as special celebrations throughout the school year, including HALLOWEEN, WINTER BREAK AND VANELTINE’S DAY AND RETIREMENT GIFTS FOR THOSE RETIRING AT THE END OF THE YEAR.  The contribution is $25.00 per year and helps with the costs of these celebrations.  Check or cash is fine. Please see Bettie Grinnell in the Main Office.     Social Committee

PARKING COURTESY:  Please do not block other cars in both the Bay Street and the Polk Street parking lots.  If you have to block a car, do it only for a few minutes and leave your Galileo Parking Hanger in plain sight in your car.  If you do not have a Galileo Parking Hanger, see Bettie Grinnell in the Main Office. ALSO PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE IS NO MORE PARKING ON FRANCISCO STREET BY THE FLAG POLE.  CURRENTLY WE HAVE ALSO BEEN TOLD NOT TO PARK ON THE SIDE OF THE BUILDING ON FRANCISCO STREET AS THIS BREAKS THE LAW OF “NO DRIVING ON SIDEWALKS.”  Further information may be forthcoming.    Mrs. Grinnell

COFFEE AND COOKIES: Support Special Education by purchasing a cup of fresh roasted coffee $1.25 and cookies $.25. Available daily 7:45am all year long in either room 214 or 212. (alternating bi-weekly)

TEACHER LOCATOR:  The Current Teacher Locator is now posted on the Galileo Website.  Check the Staff Support Area on the website. This document will be updated as changes occur.

STAFF PHONE DIRECTORY:  The current Staff Phone Directory is now posted on the Galileo website in the Staff Support Area.  There are 2 versions which you can print out–legal size and letter size. This document will be updated as needed.

TEACHER VOICEMAIL:  It is important for parents to contact their students’ teachers.  If you have not set up your email, please see me and I can help facilitate this.  It is important for parents to be able to contact their child’s teachers. It takes 2-3 minutes and we can do it at my desk.

TEACHER EMERGENCY CARDS:  Hi All– It is so important that we have current information on your emergency card about who to contact in an emergency.  With so many new staff this year it has been challenging to reach out to everyone. Street Soccer

Indoor Soccer Sign Ups!

If students are interested in playing indoor soccer pick up a form in room 119!

Practices will take place on Wednesdays from 5-6PM and will be taught by accredited soccer coaches. Open to all grades and skill levels. Futurama/Jose Carrsco

ScriptEd

Futurama in partnership with ScriptEd will be offering a year long twice-a week coding bootcamp for students. Students will learn the basics of computer programming from experts who work in tech. Classes will be Mondays and Tuesdays after school. Come to room 119 for sign ups!  Futurama/Jose Carrascp

Gettysburg College: 9/11 @ 3:15pm @ RM 260: This is a small private college located in Gettysburg, PA.  They support study abroad while you’re in college. Come check it out.

North American Coalitions for Christian Admissions Professional: 9/11 @ 5:30pm-7:30pm @ Valley Christian Schools, 100 Skyway Dr. #130, San Jose: This is a FREE Christian college & university fair.  https://www.naccap.org/page/Fair_Locations

Davidson College: 9/12 @ lunch time @ RM 263: This is a competitive small liberal arts college located in just outside of Charlotte, NC.  It offers fly-in program as well.

Dartmouth College: 9/12 @ 2:15pm @ RM 260: It is a private, competitive, Ivy League research university in Hanover, New Hampshire.

Elon University: 9/16 @ 3pm-5pm @ San Rafael: This is a competitive private university in NC.  This program is designed for students and families at any stage in the college search process.  It’s hosted by the Elon Admissions staff, are offered in cities across the country. We invite you and your family to learn more about how Elon’s culture of active learning will propel you to great things.  Exact location will be provided upon registration. College Ambassador Meeting: 9/11 @ lunch time @ RM 263: If you want to get a head start on college preparation or applications, join this group of motivated students.  In return, we will write you a recommendation letter for college.

For 11th, & 12th:

19th Annual Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCU) Fair: 9/10 @ 4pm-7:30pm @ Mission HS: You can meet & apply to 30-40 HBCUs at this fair.  Seniors, you can even get on the spot admissions with scholarships: please bring copies of your current transcript, SAT/ACT test scores (if available).  Juniors, you can bring a copy of your transcript.

Asian Pacific Islander Youth Leadership Council (APIYLC): 9/12 @ lunch time @ Courtyard: This is a leadership opportunity to learn about social issues and receive a stipend.  You can find the application online at https://tinyurl.com/APIYLCapp1819 Deadline to apply is 9/14 at 11:59pm. College Ambassador Training: 9/13 @ 2:15pm-4:15pm @ RM 260: This is the 2nd of 4 college application readiness workshops for current 11th & 12th college ambassador students.  Snacks will be provided & you get questions answered immediately.

For 12th:

College Application Workshop: 9/12 @ 2:15pm @ RM 260: Every Wed. & Thur. after school in Computer Lab 260, you’re welcome to come work on any college application forms with us.  We can also talk about any college related questions you may have or need help on. Snacks provide.

Free College Fly-In Program: Some private out of state colleges offer free fly-in programs to visit their campus in the fall.  This is a fun opportunity and you will learn a lot about their communities. Please check the updated College Fly-In Program list:http://galileoweb.org/college/flyin/
