WORD OF THE WEEK: AUTUMN LEAVES
Autumn leaf color is a phenomenon that affects the normally green leaves of many deciduous trees and shrubs by which they take on, during a few weeks in the autumn season, various shades of red, yellow, purple, black, orange, pink, magenta, blue and brown. The phenomenon is commonly called autumn colours or autumn foliage in British English and fall colors, fall foliage or simply foliage in American English.

Winter Assembly: Friday, December 7, 2018 during a double 4th period.
Final Exams: December 18 – 20, 2018. Last Day of Fall Semester is Friday, December 21, 2018.
Winter Break: December 24, 2018 – January 4, 2019. School resumes on Monday, January 7, 2019.
Indoor Soccer Sign Ups!
If students are interested in playing indoor soccer pick up a form in room 119!
Practices will take place on Wednesdays from 5-6PM and will be taught by accredited soccer coaches. Open to all grades and skill levels. Futurama/Jose Carrsco
Futurama in partnership with ScriptEd will be offering a year long twice-a week coding bootcamp for students. Students will learn the basics of computer programming from experts who work in tech. Classes will be Mondays and Tuesdays after school. Come to room 119 for sign ups! Futurama/Jose Carrasco

Grand Canyon University: 11/28 @ 11:45am @ RM 263: This is a Division I, Christian university located in Phoenix, AZ. They have 19,000 students and is growing. Check out different programs they have.

For 10th, 11th, & 12th:
College Ambassador Meeting: 11/27 @ lunch time @ RM 263: If you want to get a head start on college preparation or applications, join this group of motivated students.
CCSF Dual Enrollment: 11/29 @ 11:45am & 11/30 @ 12:20pm @ RM 104: Students who have 2.0 GPA or higher can take college courses at City College of San Francisco (CCSF) after school, in the evening, Saturdays, or over summer. There is no tuition fee for H.S. students and in most cases books are loaned for free. Explore career areas, gain college readiness and receive a GPA bump. Students receive support during enrollment and course registrations, orientations, and semester check-ins. Most classes are CSU/UC transferable and/or can be applied towards a certificate program. Come see what classes are available!
SEO Scholars Application: This is a non-profit found in NY. They provide free college prep support (SAT pre course, Sat. school, summer program, summer excursion and college campus visits, and mentorship in high school and in college) for first generation students (This means neither of your parents have attended college in the States) and low income (free or reduced lunch). The program will support you from high school and through college. This is an opportunity for 9th graders only. Application deadline is 12/15/18: http://scholars.seo-usa.org/applysf/
UC & CSU application is due by 11/30. It’s best for you to complete the application during Thanksgiving break and if you need help reviewing it, come to the college application workshop on 11/28 & 11/29. It’s best to submit your application by 11/28 to prevent the system crashing down on the last day of the deadline.
College Application Workshop: 11/28 & 11/29 @ 2:15pm @ RM 260: Every Wed. & Thur., you’re welcome to come work on any college application forms with us. We can also talk about any college related questions you may have or need help on. Snacks provided.
uAspire can help you with financial aid related questions now and during college years for free. Please turn in your consent form to RM 209 ASAP. You can pick up a consent form in the Counseling Center or in RM 209.
If you’re interested in applying for scholarships, please check the updated Scholarship List either onhttp://galileoweb.org/college/scholarships/ or on the Scholarship bulletin board in the Counseling Center (RM 258). It’s also sent via Remind Text when it’s updated.

SOCIAL COMMITTEE CONTRIBUTION: The Social Committee provides breakfast for our days before school, as well as special celebrations throughout the school year, including HALLOWEEN, WINTER BREAK AND VANELTINE’S DAY AND RETIREMENT GIFTS FOR THOSE RETIRING AT THE END OF THE YEAR. The contribution is $25.00 per year and helps with the costs of these celebrations. Check or cash is fine. Please see Bettie Grinnell in the Main Office. Social Committee
PARKING COURTESY: Please do not block other cars in both the Bay Street and the Polk Street parking lots. If you have to block a car, do it only for a few minutes and leave your Galileo Parking Hanger in plain sight in your car. If you do not have a Galileo Parking Hanger, see Bettie Grinnell in the Main Office. ALSO PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE IS NO MORE PARKING ON FRANCISCO STREET BY THE FLAG POLE. CURRENTLY WE HAVE ALSO BEEN TOLD NOT TO PARK ON THE SIDE OF THE BUILDING ON FRANCISCO STREET AS THIS BREAKS THE LAW OF “NO DRIVING ON SIDEWALKS.” Further information may be forthcoming. Mrs. Grinnell

TEACHER VOICEMAIL: It is important for parents to contact their students’ teachers. If you have not set up your email, please see me and I can help facilitate this. It is important for parents to be able to contact their child’s teachers. It takes 2-3 minutes and we can do it at my desk.
TEACHER EMERGENCY CARDS: Hi All– It is so important that we have current information on your emergency card about who to contact in an emergency. SCHOOL TOURS AND SHADOWING: Began Tuesday, October 23, 2018, and run through December 4, 2018. School Tours will begin in the auditorium at 8:30am. Shadowing will begin with Galileo students and visiting students at 8:00am and will either be half day (over at 12:20pm) or full day (over at 3:10pm). Please welcome our visiting students into your classrooms.
