10/13 University of Puget Sound @ 11:45am-12:25pm @ RM 104: This is one of the well-respected private liberal arts college in WA. It’s known for business, music, and more. It’s also a Posse partner in which 4 years of tuition can be paid for if students are selected for this scholarship
10/13 Arts College Informational Forum @ 2:30pm-3:15pm @ RM 555: If you’re interested in applying to an art or performing art college or are interested in checking out the National Performing & Visual College Fair on 10/23, please check to this forum. You will learn how to prepare for the art college fair.
10/14 Clarkson University @ 3:15pm @ RM 104: This is a small private research university in upstate New York. It has more than 50 rigorous programs of study in engineering, business, arts, education, sciences and the health professions.

10/15 CSU, East Bay Preview Day @ 8am-12pm: This college is located in Hayward and it has about 14,000 students which is considered one of the smallest CSU campuses. At this FREE preview day (like an open house), students and parents can learn about the latest admission requirements and financial aid, get a tour of the campus, learn about student life, academic support programs, athletics, majors, and academic colleges. 10/16 Duke University @ 1pm-3pm @ Sheraton Palo Alto Hotel, 625 El Camino Real, Palo Alto: A competitive medium sized Ivy-League college located in North Carolina. Duke admissions officers will present info. and answer questions about the university, the admissions process, financial aid, and much more. There will be another session at 3:30pm. If you’re between the age of 16-24 and need help finding a job, please check out Chalk. This is a non-profit organization that provides job searching skills such as writing resume, cover letters, job interviews etc. They will also be able to hire undocumented students for certain positions. Thursdays @ 2:30pm-4pm @ RM 119: FREE workshops on how to save money & be an entrepreneur: Learn how to make a business plan, network with future entrepreneurs, learn about PsC and visit their offices and receive college prep support from professional. For 10th & 11th:
10/22 FREE Practice ACT Test @ 8:30-12:30pm @ Galileo Academy: this is one of the college admission required test that you can take in addition to or instead of the SAT. Taking this full-length practice test will give you a better idea on whether you score higher on ACT or SAT. You will receive a detailed report including an essay evaluation in 3-5 business days. Registration will be closed on 10/19:www.compasspre.com/GalileoACT or call 415-464-8600.
For 11th & 12th:
San Francisco Conservation Corps: If you’re between the age of 16-25, interested in physical work such as recycling and landscaping and can commit to at least 32 hours of work per week (HS diploma is not required), then apply for this program. You can also get your HS diploma through this program. Information session is every Thursday at 1:30pm at 102 Fort Mason. For more information, contact JoPierre Davis: 415-740-4830.
10/19 PSAT @ 8am-12:35pm @ Galileo Academy: If you want to take this practice SAT to see if you can qualify for the national merit scholarship, please sign-up for this test in the College & Career Center in room 258F. It’s first come first served and 10/13 is the last day to sign-up. Seats are limited.
11/9 is the registration deadline if you want to register for the low cost ACT prep classfrom 1/4/17-4/5/17 on Wed. from 2:30-4:30pm at Galileo. Cost will range from $290-$490 per student depending on enrollment. For more details or to sign-up, please see Ms. S. Chan in room 258F.
10/12 Making Waves Scholarship @ 11:45-12:20pm @ RM 104: This scholarship is awarded for $5,000 per year for all 4 years in college. In addition to money, you will get mentors and peer support throughout college.
10/12 Writing the Common App. Essays @ 2:15pm-3:15pm @ RM 104: University of San Francisco’s (USF) admission counselor will help you understand how to write the Common App. essays and you can also learn about USF.
10/12 College Application Workshop @ 3:15pm-4:15pm @ RM 104: Seniors, come work on your CSU Application, Common Application, UC Application or any other college applications of your choice. We can help answer questions along the way.

10/15 & 10/16 The Great San Francisco Personal Statement Weekend @ 1pm-6pm @ Mission High School: 826 Valencia is a non-profit agency that provides writing support for high school students. Seniors from across the district received free one-on-one support on their college application essays over the course of two days. Time slots are available between 1pm-6pm on 10/15 and 10/16. As you know, uAspire is here to support you for the financial aid process. In addition to having the “money man”, Michael, whom you have met in your social studies class presentation, there will be a second advisor joining him.
uAspire’s My Brother’s and Sister’s Keeper (MBSK) Initiative invites students who identify as African American to participate in college affordability advising. MBSK College Affordability Advisor, Breanna Branch, will be in room 209 every 1st and 3rd Friday, starting September 23rd. Please stop by the College Center or room 209 to get more information. The consent form is sent via SchoolLoop. Consent forms for MBSK participation can be turned into the College Center/Room 209. Alternatively, you may take a clear photo of the signed form and email it to email@example.com or text the photo to 510-575-0524.
uAspire is still accepting consent forms. Please turn in the green uAspire consent form to room 209 to receive financial aid help.
The Fly-In Program List is sent via SchoolLoop and posted outside of room 255: If you want to apply for a grant to visit some private colleges for FREE, check out this list and apply. Most of the colleges that offer a Fly-In Program will also provide large amount of scholarship. If you need help with the application, ask one of the advisors in room 209, or Ms. S. Chan in room 258 or ask your academic counselor. Good luck!
