THOUGHT OF THE WEEK: ST. PATRICK’S DAY: Saint Patrick’s Day, or the Feast of Saint Patrick (Irish: Lá Fhéile Pádraig, “the Day of the Festival of Patrick”), is a cultural and religious celebration held on 17 March, the traditional death date of Saint Patrick (c. AD 385–461), the foremost patron saint of Ireland.
Saint Patrick’s Day was made an official Christian feast day in the early 17th century and is observed by the Catholic Church, the Anglican Communion (especially the Church of Ireland), the Eastern Orthodox Church, and the Lutheran Church. The day commemorates Saint Patrick and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland, and celebrates the heritage and culture of the Irish in general. Celebrations generally involve public parades and festivals, céilithe, and the wearing of green attire or shamrocks. Christians also attend church services and the Lenten restrictions on eating and drinking alcohol are lifted for the day.
St Patrick’s Day parades began in North America in the 18th century but did not spread to Ireland until the 20th century. The participants generally include marching bands, the military, fire brigades, cultural organisations, charitable organisations, voluntary associations, youth groups, fraternities, and so on. However, over time, many of the parades have become more akin to a carnival.

ASB CARD STICKERS: are sold at ASB office (room 150) @ $5.00. Discount for dances, sweatshirts, lanyards, & other school spirit items.
ASB STUDENT STORE: in room 150 is selling healthy drinks, snacks, hand towels, mugs, poms poms, and other school spirit items.
STUDENT ID CARDS: Our Student ID Card software has been updated with the latest student pictures and is now up and running. If you know any current students or new/transfer students in need of an ID card, please direct them to Ms. Rivera in the Counseling office (258E), where our ID printer is located.
For any new/transfer students, first ID card is free of charge. All replacement ID cards will cost $2.
PATRICK’S DAY:Everyone wear green to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day this Friday, March 17.

3/15 Naval Academy Info. Session @ 9am & @ 10:05am @ RM 157: This is one of the military colleges we have in the country. It’s competitive and located in the beautiful Annapolis, Maryland. There will be a presentation on the exploration and application of the principles of physics in film and fiction. Additionally, there will be information about two summer programs offered at the US Naval Academy. If you want to attend this presentation and need a pass, please see Ms. S. Chan in room 258F.
3/27-3/31 Spring Break Performing Arts Camp for Teens @ Wilsey Center for Opera, 4th floor of the War Memorial Veterans Building, 401 Van Ness Avenue @ McAllister Street, SF: Fill your Spring Break with music, poetry, dance, theater and digital media storytelling! San Francisco Opera, San Francisco Ballet, A.C.T., Youth Speaks, and Citizen Film in partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs. Lots of exciting opportunities to work with local artists and meet teens from diverse communities. No performing experience required. Cost: $10 application fee; tuition is $0-$200. They will also provide college prep. resources such as SAT prep, summer programs, college campus visit for FREE. They look for low income and first generation to college students. If you’re a freshman, please come check out this fantastic opportunity or work on the application form with us.
GenesysWorks Interview Prep @ 11:45am @ RM 104: Genesys Works Applicants –
During this time a Genesys Works representative will be there to give you tips about what to do during your interview and how to prepare. This is a great opportunity to ask questions and get in the zone before your interview!
