Today we had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Quock and Donna Lew from the American Heart Association. Dr. Quock talked with our GHA classes about the American Heart Association, heart anatomy, heart diseases and risk factors. I particularly appreciated how Dr. Quock’s talk included information about his career and cultural sensitivity. The American Heart Association’s mission reminded me of our guest speaker on traditional Chinese medicine. It seems the emphasis is on maintaining health or health prevention. Dr. Quock mentioned The Framingham study that found, “When the blood pressure is over 140/90 mmHg, the risk of death from cardiovascular disease is more than two times greater than a blood pressure of 120/80 or less.” Each year our senior class learns how to take a blood pressure. Each year we find at least three students with blood pressure well over 120/80. It is time to watch our health.
