Change a blog, change afoot
The recent renovation brought the main library room’s space into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, making both aisles and seating wheelchair accessible. As a consequence, the room feels much less crowded, but we’ve lost a good deal of mobile shelving and the sofa / armchair reading area. With last year’s purchase of 42 MacBook laptops, however, we’ll integrate our computer workstations right into the main room. This has freed the securable back room of the library space which will be used now for library staff and SLAC-er office and publications work, video/DVD shelving, collection processing, and equipment staging / storage. The sofa / armchair reading area and recent book and magazine acquisitions will occupy the former small processing room. After a few adjustments to door locks, the former office will provide a small group work area for teachers and students. We’re working hard on getting moved in this weekend. Next comes an assessment of what needs to be done after the year long librarian sabbatical and renovation. We’ll update here soon with a proejcted timeline of task completion.
