Writing Instructions

Mr. Machtay will demonstrate some simple and familiar steps in Photoshop and the class will help him write step-by-step instructions.

Students will then be grouped into teams of three. Each team will write step-by-step instructions for one of three different scenarios.

Suggestion: Have one team member open Photoshop and work through the steps. As each step is performed, the team can write the step-by-step instructions in MS Word. Place the names of team members at the top of the document.

A. Start a New File in Photoshop 400px w, 300px ht, standard pixels per inch. Paint the background layer bright yellow. Then add a new layer. Name this new layer “circle.” Draw a perfectly round circle on this layer and paint it bright red. Now add one more layer and type the word “GALILEO” on this layer. Make the word white, Impact, 60point.

B. Start a new Photoshop file 500px w, 250px ht,  standard pixels per inch. Add a new layer and name that layer “diamond.” Draw a perfect square onto this layer and paint that square black. Then change that square into a diamond. Now add one more layer and type the word “GALILEO” on this layer. Make the word black, Verdana, 60 point.

C. Start a new Photoshop file 350px w, 350px ht, standard pixels per inch. Do an internet search for a photograph of a lion. Save this lion picture to your desktop. Then insert the lion picture into your Photoshop file. Then apply a cross-hatch filter to the inserted picture. Now add one more layer and type the word “GALILEO” on this layer. Make the word red, Times New Roman, 72 point.
