Logos for Products

You have all demonstrated design skills and skills with Photoshop. But now can you apply those skills to meet Communication Challenges?

LOGOS:

You will choose one of the Communication Challenges below and create three logos for your product.

Begin each logo file as 400px by 400px. If the file is all solid blocks of color, save as a GIF. If the image is more photographic or uses gradients, save as a JPG.

Logos need to be simple. They generally DON’T use photographs. More likely to use a simple shape or iconic image.

Most logos feature words prominently. Don’t just put down letters. Make the letters relate to each other and turn the words into design.

CHALLENGE 1: MAKE-UP FOR ASIAN TEEN GIRLS

A multinational make-up company wants to sell more product to Asian teenage girls. Create a name for the product line. Then you must create a logo that would appeal to Asian teenage girls and make them feel OK about wearing more make-up.

CHALLENGE 2: SHRIMP CHIPS FOR WISCONSIN TEENS

Your client is a huge food company that wants to maximize profits.

In Wisconsin most of the teenagers are white and Midwestern. They have never heard of Shrimp Chips. If you offered them Shrimp Chips, a lot of them would act grossed out. How can you create a brand name and design a logo for Shrimp Chips that would appeal to teenagers in Wisconsin.

CHALLENGE 3: PUDDING CUPS FOR LATINO & BLACK TEENAGE BOYS

This same huge food company has determined that they want to sell more pudding cups. They have noticed that sales are slower in Latino and African-American neighborhoods. They want to create a new brand of pudding cups that will appeal to Latino and African-American teenage boys.

CHALLENGE 4: HEALTHY CANDY FOR TEENAGERS

The huge food company has come up with a recipe for candy that doesn’t use any sugar and uses carob instead of chocolate. It’s less than half the calories and half the fat of a regular candy bar. But they can’t get teenagers to choose this candy bar (even though the taste is identical). Create a brand name for the candy bar and a logo that will appeal to teenagers.
