VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY AT UCSF!
UCSF is looking for High School volunteers for their week long “Summer Science Camp” for 5th graders. The Volunteer Application is due Friday April 30th, 2010. If you know students who are interested in gaining valuable leadership skills and mentoring 5th graders as they learn about science, then have them apply now!
Logistics: This year’s camp will be held on Monday, June 14th – Friday, June 18th from 8:00am – 5:00pm daily at UCSF’s Parnassus campus in San Francisco.
Here are just a few of the amazing experiments that volunteers will be trained by UCSF graduate students to help with:
· Make and eat liquid nitrogen ice cream
· Create explosions
· Launch water rockets
· Build speakers
· Experiment with dry ice
· Protect an egg from a ten-story fall
· Make slime
· Race self-made boats
· Meet famous scientists
Who can participate: Any high school student is eligible to participate as a volunteer for camp. Interested students should fill out the attached application and email it to us by Friday, April 30th!
How will you know if you are chosen: Volunteers will receive notification regarding their acceptance via phone and/or email by early May. Further camp information will be supplied at that time.

Are you a student looking to develop themselves professionally? This is an excellent opportunity for students to become familiar with the inner workings of a non-profit business, gain administative skills and learn what it takes to positively impact over 3,000 children during the course of a year. Experience first-hand the collaboration with our museum partners, the Exploratorium, Cal Academy of Sciences, Museum of Children’s Art, YMCA and Zeum. Support our year round team with a broad range of projects and get direct experience with our youth curriculum. This position could also lead to a paid summer position at one of our seven locations in the Bay Area.
Edventure More! Was created in 2004 as a summer camp, but has now grown into the Bay Area’s premier non-profit organization working to bring thousands of children quality enrichment programs year-round.
For PE credit (2nd year) – AVID Students ONLY!:
- One season of sports = one semester of PE credit. Form available in my office.
- 90 hrs of physical activity at a gym = one semester of PE. Letter (on the gym’s official letterhead) that states: “Student ________ fulfilled 180 hrs of physical activity at _________. Sincerely, _______”

The Contemporary Jewish Museum in downtown San Francisco is excited to recruit its second class of Teen Art Connect participants! Teen Art Connect is a paid intercultural internship and career exploration program, and we’re looking for diverse teens from throughout the Bay Area who are interested in getting paid to work at the Museum. For the Spring semester, John Adams is accepting applications NOW. Come see me for the form, which you will need parent signature for, and go to John Adams to register for the class. Classes offered include English, Algebra, US History, Biology.
First come first serve. Registration ends beginning of February 09. Must be 16 years or older to attend.
