Before you start these activities remember the guidelines for working in computer labs:

1. Respect the school: treat the computers like they were your own.  If you have a problem ask for help.
2. Respect your peers:  Speak softly and do not distract others from their work.
3. Respect yourself:  You are required to be using the computers for AA Finite activities.  If you are surfing the web, accessing other websites, or using other applications that are not part of the class, your computer will be shutdown, and you will lose significant points.  If this happens more than once this year, you not be able to use the computers during class time and you will only watch computer lab activities.

Today’s Lesson

1. Review the syllabus and the class rules for AA Finite (pull down menu at the top of www.galileoweb.org/paged)

2. Fill out the Student Information Form (there is a link on the front page of my website, just below the link for this activity).  You’ll need your book number for this activity.

3.  Register for an online version of your book. To do this follow the steps in the attached document .  Look at the screen shots to help you register and sign in.

4. Investigate the online Book. Look at each of the following resources shown on the home page of the Classzone site

In the second window you will open up an applet on the website for our text book.  You will use the correlation and regression applet within the “statistical applets” section.  (Click here for the statistical applet)

In the final window you will open up an online form and enter your responses directly into the form.  You are required to answer every question.  If you don’t finish, you will have to star over at home, so work efficiently.  (Click here for the online form)

I want you to work on this in class, so any responses provided prior to class time will be deleted.

In an effort to save paper and our planet, this lab will be completely done electronically.  You can view the lab pdf by clicking here . While you already have the statistical capability to solve these problems using your calculator or Standard Normal Table, I want you to use the applet to answer these questions.  Using the applet provides a hands-on, visual experience that may help you grasp the concepts a little more firmly, quicker.

I would advise opening another tab in your browser and opening a link to the website for our text book.  You will be using a statistical applet for normal distributions.  You can follow this link to go directly to the statistical applets.  Choose the “Normal Curve” applet.

Now follow the instructions outlined in the lab pdf.  To answer the questions in the lab, fill out the online form .  Make sure you answer all of the questions.

The data for the homework can be found by clicking on the “datasets” link.  If you’re going to download the data to your TI calculator, choose the TI-83 (for 83 or 84 calculators) or the TI 89 archive for the TI 89 calculators.  If you want to download the data to fathom choose the ASCII format (this is a text format).
