Please read through the following as they are things you and your parents/guardians will want to know about the class.  Â

Rules and expectations:              Â

You are expected to come to class on time for every class.  Few exceptions are allowed, please talk to Ms. Peters about any problems you have getting to class.·             Â

Remember to be courteous and respectful of all others in and out of the classroom at all times.   Treat others as you would like to be treated. ·             Â

Keep your learning environment safe for you and all others at all times.   A safe environment would not include derogatory, racist, sexist, etc.  language or actions of any kind.  Physical safety would include clear aisles between desks and in walkways, and ABSOLUTELY NO TRASH IN THE CLASSROOM.  Trash belongs in trash bins.           Â

If you have not participated in your class lately, step up.   If you have participated well lately, step back and let others share. ·             Â

Keep your cell phones, iPods, and all electronic devices to yourself.  I don’t even want to see them.·             Â

All homework assignments are due on the due date.   Late work is accepted, but only for half credit, and only within two class sessions after the original due date.  If you have an excused absence, you can make up assignments if you ask for the work as soon as you return to class and turn in your work within the same amount of time as you were absent.  Anything later will only count for half credit.  Remember that it is your responsibility to come to me to find out what you need to make up when you are absent.·             Â

You are expected to bring an English binder, paper, and a pen or pencil to every class!  I don not lend out any of these things.   ·             Â

You are expected to write your first and entire last name on all of your assignments that you turn in.  Please do not write “Joe M.”  ·             Â

You are expected to keep all of your papers!   They will come in handy throughout the semester.·             Â

As a courtesy to me and others, please refrain from wearing or using perfumes, colognes, body sprays, or any scented lotions.   I am allergic and these cause me headaches.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Consequences:

Any person caught with a cell phone, any other electronic device, or any other object not appropriate in class will have that item confiscated for the period.  Second time caught will result in an all day confiscation, and third time will result to a trip to the Dean’s office.  I can see you texting, so don’t even try it.·            Â

Repeated warnings about class disruptions will eventually result in a trip to the dean’s office and loss of points for the day’s assignments.  I do give many chances in my class.  You may have to move seats once or twice, get a talking to about your disruptive behavior, but eventually if you push me, I will send you out.  Let’s remember that too many trips to the dean’s office will result in school detention and/or suspension.·            Â

I also make a point to call home to your parents when there is a continual problem.  If you do not turn in assignments and do not work in class, I may visit your school counselor.  You may also have to attend a parent, student, teacher conference if the need arises. ·            Â

Tardies and unexcused absences result in detention, a call home to your parents, and five points off of your participation grade for the grading period for each infraction.

Binders and notebooks:            Â

You should keep a binder for this class separated by unit.  Again, remember to keep all of your returned work. Â
